Environment Artist

San Francisco, CA or Remote

nWay is looking for an experienced Environment Artist to help build unique and original 3D worlds that can push the visual storytelling boundaries while maintaining predetermined technical and performance constraints. The ideal candidate will be able to faithfully follow the existing creative vision, based on an established art style, as well as add their own creativity. This candidate is not only talented in asset creation, but also in visual storytelling to create a narrative through the stage design. The Environment Artist works closely with design, character, concept, VFX, and engineering disciplines to create visually rich, compelling and optimized backdrops for fighting action. This position requires a strong collaborative spirit, able to inspire the team through ideas and execution.

Responsibilities

Model/Sculpt organic and hard surface props. (High poly sculpts and low-resolution game ready assets)
Produce high quality textures and shaders with a solid understanding of PBR workflows.
Lighting scenes with a good understanding of mood and atmosphere.
Work closely with designers to create worlds that improve the player’s experience.
Work closely with Art Producer and Outsource teams to implement large bulk of assets in engine
Optimize Environments to balance performance with the best visual quality.
Research and develop new industry techniques and to advance the environment art pipeline.

Requirements

Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience working on a shipped mobile or console game.
Experience building and implementing environments in Unity
Fluent knowledge of industry software (Maya, Zbrush, Photoshop, Substance Painter …)
Ability to setup and define pipelines, processes, and best practices
Awareness of game engine budgets, limits, and memory constraints for runtime optimization
